Explore Zurich Hauptbahnof
One of the city’s most important transportation hubs, Zurich Hauptbahnof is the largest railway station in Switzerland. The bustling station originally served as the terminus for the first railway built entirely in Switzerland, the Spanisch Brötli Bahn. It is also one of the oldest railway stations in the country and one of the busiest in the world. Today, Zurich Hauptbahnof is a major gateway for the city and less than a ten minute walk from the Comfort Hotel in Zurich Switzerland.
Regular trains depart from the Hauptbahnoff, also known as the Zurich HB or simply the HB, to destinations across Switzerland and Europe. This makes the transportation hub an ideal base for getting into Zurich. It is also a major departure point for memorable day trips from the city. Trains depart to and from world famous European capitals and major cities, including Amsterdam, Barcelona, Berlin, Budapest, Frankfurt, Cologne, Milan, Munich, Paris, Rome, Salzburg and Vienna. S-Bahn, regional and long-distance trains also connect with unforgettable towns and scenic routes across the country.
Zurich’s central station is also an attraction in itself. The historic building links directly with ShopVille-RailCity Zürich, a lively underground retail centre with shops and restaurants. The sprawling shopping mall is particularly busy on Sundays when locals head out to do their shop and stock up on groceries. During the holiday season, ShopVille-RailCity Zürich also hosts a lovely Christmas market.
